Grad jobs

Despite the current economic downturn, the minerals and energy sector require more graduates, particularly in the engineering and science disciplines but also in health and safety, business and human resources. The application season for 2010 jobs has pretty much closed for now but there are still some opportunities around. You will find that most grad jobs applications close around May/June each year.

To stay informed on many of the graduate employment opportunities offered by Queensland's minerals and energy companies see QRC’s Facebook Group Graduate jobs with mining and energy companies http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=13723155659

FYI you do not have to be registered with Facebook to view this information however we encourage people who are registered with Facebook to join this group to receive regular updates on new graduate employment opportunities.

It isn't too late! Vacation work jobs are still open!

Vacation work opportunities with BMA, Vale, Thiess and CRL are still open.

Vacation work (Vac work) with a minerals or energy company is a short-term paid position offered to undergraduate students. Vac work is usually on a mine site or at a power station, and is a great opportunity for students to experience a resources sector career and the associated lifestyle. Most of QRC’s member companies offer summer vacation work from December – February each year and some companies offer opportunities for winter vacation work during June – July.

Companies offer vac work to students who they think best fit their company. You don’t necessarily have to have top grades for example as companies usually look for someone with a genuine interest in their organisation and the resources sector, a good work ethic and positive attitude. Many companies use vac work as a filter for identifying potential graduates.

Securing a vac work opportunity is competitive but students should not be deterred. Hundreds of students gain vac work with Queensland minerals and energy companies each year. We recommend that even first year university students apply as our member companies have a good track record of investing in first year vac work students.

To view all the vac work opportunities available with minerals and energy companies, see QRC’s Facebook Group 'Vac work with mining and energy companies'

QRC's Annual Scholarship Student Ambassdor Day

QRC hosted the third annual QRC Scholarship student ambassador day. 21 students came along to hear speakers from Rio Tinto, Golding Contractors, Santos, BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance, Thiess and InFocus. QRC Chief Executive Michael Roche welcomed the students and gave a 'state of the sector' report leaving the students feeling very positive about the future of the resources sector in QLD. Preperation has begun for the 2010 student ambassador day - and we look forward to welcoming some new students into the fold.
